Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)
SFBT is an evidence-based therapeutic approach, which incorporates positive psychology principles and is short-term goal focused. It helps clients change by constructing solutions rather than focusing on problems and concentrates on your current circumstances and your future hopes.
The therapist and client carefully search through the client’s life experience and behavioural repertoire to discover the resources needed to construct sustainable solutions. SFBT therapists use a style of questioning to get the client to think ‘outside the box’. It asks the client to consider life without the problem, imagine what it would look like if the problem were gone. Described as a practical, goal-driven model, a hallmark of SFBT is its emphasis on clear, concise, realistic goal negotiations.
