Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)
DBT is a unique treatment model primarily for Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) developed in the USA by Professor Marsha Linehan. Dialectical means working with opposites, using the opposing strategies of ‘acceptance’ and ‘change’. The therapist helps you move away from harmful coping behaviours towards a life worth living using Mindfulness, Emotion Regulation, Interpersonal Effectiveness and Distress Tolerance. .
The therapist accepts you just as you are, but acknowledges the need for change in order for you to recover, move forward and reach your personal goals.
